While picking up my Dad's medicine at the drug store the other day, I noticed a sign that indicated the best way to beat holiday stress is by exercise. We are aware that exercise is a great way to beat stress including holiday stress, but somehow we get caught up in the day-to-day routine of life and exercise takes a back seat until finally it is no longer a consideration for us.
There is nothing better than exercise to help us beat holiday stress and handle the day-to-day stress in our lives. During the holidays our stress level elevates due to the increase demands in our lives. Many times the joy of the season is replaced with a feeling of "hurry up and get it over." If we start now on an exercise program, then by the time the holidays have arrived we will be better equipped to handle the stress.
A great way to exercise is by walking. Call a friend and form a buddy-walking plan where you walk together. Set a target goal of at least 4 times a week to walk at least 30 minutes. The time will pass much more quickly when walking with a friend and will be a great way to bond with your friend. My favorite place to walk is inside a mall. The window displays provides interests as you walk and many times new friendships arise as you meet others doing their exercise routine.
As always, we should consult our physician before pursuing an exercise routine. The hardest part of almost any task is getting start. Making that first step could set us on the right road to better health and help beat holiday stress, as well as the day-to-day stress in our lives. Starting an exercise routine would be the best gift we could give ourselves. Set short term goals to help inspire yourself along the way. Perhaps after accomplishing your exercise routine for a month, pamper yourself with something special.
Cheers,
Gin
