A Long Ago Christmas Centerpiece Makes A Cherished Memory
Today I spent sometime thinking about decorating my home for the holidays. As I was going down memory lane of previous holidays, a wonderful memory came dashing back.
It was a cold Christmas Eve and I had been extremely busy for the last couple of days trying to do last minute shopping, baking Christmas goodies and doing the finishing touches on the house in preparation for the arrival of Christmas. Things had not gone well that morning. Had to make an unexpected trip into town to pick up some needed items for cooking and gift-wrapping, which placed my schedule for the day in complete array.
As I was immersed into one of my least favorite tasks, gift-wrapping, the doorbell unexpectedly rang. It was mid afternoon and most everyone I knew was still at work, so I made my way to the front door thinking it was someone needing directions or perhaps a request for a donation.
I was utterly surprised when opening the front door I saw my neighbor standing there with a breathtakingly beautiful fresh Christmas centerpiece. My neighbor said the florist delivery guy came by when I had gone to town earlier that morning, so he left the flowers with him.
My whole day changed when I saw the lovely Christmas centerpiece. No longer was I consumed with thinking about things on my to-do list for the beauty of the Christmas centerpiece had me captivated. I was overwhelmed with joy. It was a totally unexpected gift from a precious loved one who lived miles away. My heart was pounding with love as my thoughts were consumed with that of my loved one who had sent the marvelous gift.
My Christmas dinner table was truly beautiful that year. The Christmas centerpiece radiated with beauty and warmth. It set the stage for Christmas cheer and joyous festivities as my loved ones and I dined and celebrated the specialness of the season.
I still have the centerpiece container from that long ago Christmas and each year as I start planning for the holidays this wonderful cherished memory makes it way back.
