The Settlers of Catan is a game of strategy. Number of players are 3 to 4. There are several expansion modules providing different scenarios and an *extension module add on that you can purchase.
With the extension module more players are able to play. Instead of the normal 3 to 4 players allowed, you can have 5-6 players playing at one time. Game lovers or those having a large family should consider the extension module. Everyone will want to play.
If buying it for someone with a large family or lots of gameboard lover friends, consider getting the *Settlers of Catan Bundle 4th Edition. This contains both the game and the extension providing for more players.
The normal playing time for a 3 to 4 player game is usually between 1 to 2 hours. It is recommended for those who are 10 and up in age.
The basic concepts consist of players collecting resources. They then use these resources to build roads, cities and settlements, in pursuit of victory. A great feature is the variable board. Each game will be a little different from the next.
